Tescocompare.com the RBS owned comparison site has launched its home insurance comparison service. We’ve managed to get access to their private beta but it will be available to the public by the time you read this. Tesco Compare are clearly on a domination march across the financial services world with comparison products soon to launch for mortgages and utilities.

With such a good brand, they’re sure to do well… watch this space.

Tesco are not the only ones, I hear that Asda are looking for a mortgage broker partner at the moment as well.

It’s only a matter of time until Spar and Londis get involved.

haha - I can see it now. londiscompare.com

And its now up for everyone to see.

It seems to have the same usability issues and general un-inspiring interface design of the tesco compare car form.

The panel is good (in brand name terms). The holding screen doesn’t show all of the brands on the system at the moment.

It isn’t really a great comparison tool just yet - there are huge gaps in the risk sets which will actually get a decent price/cover. That’s obviously the result of chasing brand names for launch. I’m sure they’ll develop this over time.

There also seem to be some slow responses from the RBS brands - you would have thought they’d make sure the responses from those guys came in first!!

Not a lover of Tesco, but it did save me some money on my home insurance. Pretty easy to use too, so a grudging complement!!

OK then insiders. “Kings of the private beta” - you caught a glimpse of the new confused or insurancewide tools? Heard whisperings of something special from the underdogs myself but ain’t seen either in the flesh.

@Johnny P, I’ve mananged to get a little looksee in to the new *my*moneysupermarket but I think that’s out in the open now.

It seems to me that the big players are doing standard product expansion whilst a few others are thinking about a move outside the UK.

I know this is Ernest’s area though - Ernest, anything you haven’t told me about? Obviously apart from your promotion to run the new tescocompare.com site ;)

    Promotion?!

Not to steal Ernests promotional thunder, but londiscompare.com have now launched a mortgage coomparison service http://www.tescocompare.com/mortgages.shtml
and a bike insurance comparison service http://www.tescocompare.com/motorbike.shtml without a whisper from insiders view. You guys off on annual leave with the rest of the UK?

  11. George on August 21, 2008 4:10 pm

It’s rather old news and not that interesting. Neither are run by Tesco, they’re both rebrands.

Nevertheless, perhaps we should have let you know. Our apologies for letting go of the ball!

P.S. Why is everyone going on about annual leave at the moment? You and Martin Lewis have obviously got a bee in your bonnet.

  12. stagerank on August 27, 2008 11:38 am

heh - it is a bit of a “stodgy” phrase - i think it’s people trying to justify being away by implying it only happens on an annual basis. Martin obviously needs a holiday badly as I do.

Rumour has it there’s another service launching tomorrow - also any views you guys have on the impact of the RBS sale of TPF would be cool to see (sorry if it’s already posted elsewhere!)
